Ipswich Police Respond after Vehicle Crashes into Building
IPSWICH — Chief Paul Nikas reports that Ipswich police responded to a Turkey Shore Road home Wednesday night after a car crashed through the front door.
At 7:10 p.m. police responded to multiple reports of a Buick sedan that had crashed into a single family home at 41 Turkey Shore Road and came to a rest partially inside the front entryway.
Ipswich firefighters also responded to the scene and used hydraulic tools to extricate the driver of the vehicle, an elderly Ipswich man, who sustained minor injuries and was taken by ambulance to Beverly Hospital.
The owners of the home were not home at the time of the crash, and have since been notified and returned home.
The home, built in the late 1600s, sustained significant damage to the front door and steps. A building inspector who responded to the scene deemed the building structurally sound.
Ipswich police and fire had cleared the scene of the crash by approximately 9 p.m. Wednesday.
The crash is currently under investigation by Ipswich police, although an initial investigation suggests the driver of the vehicle may have suffered a medical emergency prior to the crash.
