Reading Police to Host RAD Class for Women
READING – Deputy Chief David Clark is pleased to announce that the Reading Police Department is hosting a free Rape Aggression Defense (R.A.D.) course for women this May.
The program is designed to teach personal safety skills. It begins with awareness, prevention, risk reduction and avoidance, and progresses to hands-on physical defense techniques.
“This class teaches valuable self defense skills that women can rely on in the event of an emergency,” Deputy Chief Clark said. “It’s an empowering, preventative class, and we encourage women interested in taking the course to sign up soon.”
The course will include four sessions on the following dates and locations:
- Tuesday, May 21 from 6-9 p.m. at the Reading Police Department
- Thursday, May 23 from 6-9 p.m. at the Reading Municipal Light Department
- Tuesday, May 28 from 6-9 p.m. at the Reading Municipal Light Department
- Thursday, May 30 from 6-10 p.m. at the Reading Municipal Light Department
The Reading Police Department would like to thank the Reading Municipal Light Department for supporting the R.A.D. course, as well as the Women’s League of Reading for their donation to support this program. The Reading Police Department also thanks anonymous donors for their support of the R.A.D. program.
Reading Police have hosted R.A.D. safety classes for approximately two decades.
Women interested in signing up for the course can do so by contacting Community Service Officer Kristen O’Shaughnessy at KOShaughnessy@ci.reading.ma.us or by calling 781-942-6761.
