Ashland Town Manager Names Vincent Alfano Interim Police Chief

ASHLAND — Town Manager Michael Herbert is pleased to announce that he has appointed Vincent Alfano to serve as the town’s Interim Police Chief.

Alfano was appointed to the position on Tuesday and will begin his new role on Saturday, March 23. Alfano will be taking over the department upon Chief Craig Davis’ retirement on March 22. Chief Davis announced his retirement last month after nearly 35 years as a police officer, including the last six years as Ashland’s chief.

Alfano currently works as a law enforcement training instructor for Assonet-based Commonwealth Police Services, a private company that develops and presents advanced level law enforcement training courses on various subjects.

He served as the chief of police for the Bolton Police Department for nine years, between 2006-2015, before retiring.

Prior to his time leading the Bolton PD, he worked for the Framingham Police department for 18 years, between 1988-2006. At FPD he rose up the ranks from a patrolman to a lieutenant, while holding a number of roles and duties there, including commander of the firearms training unit and executive officer of the special operations unit.

“I am excited that we were able to attract someone of the caliber of Chief Alfano to serve as our Interim Chief of Police,” Town Manager Herbert said. “Chief Alfano’s accomplishments are well-documented, and I am positive that he will continue upholding the standards of excellence and professionalism in the department as we conduct the search for our next police chief.”

Alfano, who resides in Lancaster, holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Public Administration/Government/History from Norwich University, where he graduated from in 1979. He has also studied criminal justice post-graduate courses at Westfield State College.

“Ashland is an amazing, vibrant community, constantly in forward motion,” Alfano said. “The town is fortunate to be served by a police department of dedicated professionals, who make it their life’s mission to protect this community every time they pin on their badge at the start of their shift. I am honored that the town has allowed me the opportunity to work with these professionals to ensure the safety and security of all within our borders. My entire career has been devoted to public safety, and I am eager to share a lifetime of acquired skills and experiences with those who are tasked to protect the Town of Ashland.”
