Cooperative Middle School Renewal Committee to Present on Building Project in Brentwood
BRENTWOOD — Residents are invited to attend a meeting later this week to learn more about the proposed Cooperative Middle School Building project.
WHEN:
Friday, March 8 at 7 p.m.
WHERE:
Swasey Central School, 355 Middle Road, Brentwood
WHAT:
Immediately following the meeting to vote on Swasey School’s budget, CMS Renewal Committee members will present on the proposed building project.
On March 12, voters will be asked to consider a $17.8 million project to improve services for students, faculty and staff at CMS. All six towns that make up CMS — Brentwood, East Kingston, Exeter, Kensington, Newfields and Stratham must collectively pass the ballot item with at least 60 percent voting in favor for the initiative to move forward.
The project includes adding classrooms, installing another elevator closer to the entrance of the building, creating a multipurpose room for arts and alternative physical education, re-configuring the cafeteria so that lunches no longer need to begin at 10 a.m., and creating office space for teachers and staff who are currently relegated to storage closets.
CMS Assistant Principal Bill Perkins will present on the overall scope of the work, budget impact and how the project will benefit CMS. Superintendent David Ryan and Brentwood CMS Renewal Committee member Melissa Litchfield, who is also the Brentwood representative on the Cooperative Board, will be available to address concerns and answer questions from the public regarding the project.
“Residents will be voting on this proposal in one week and we want to ensure that they fully understand the scope of work,” Superintendent Ryan said. “If anyone has concerns or questions, or wants to learn more about the proposal, we encourage you to attend this meeting.”
