North Reading Police to Conduct Alcohol Compliance Checks
NORTH READING — Chief Michael P. Murphy reports that the North Reading Police Department will be conducting alcohol compliance checks at local liquor establishments.
Over the next several months, North Reading Police will conduct the compliance checks to ensure that all licensed liquor-selling establishments in town are operating in accordance with the law and not selling to minors.
Enforcing the laws prohibiting the sale of alcohol to underage individuals can help prevent alcohol-related traffic crashes, which needlessly claim the lives of young adults every year across the U.S. In addition, nuisance calls like fights, vandalism and noise complaints often involve young people who were drinking alcohol.
“No single approach will entirely solve underage alcohol consumption,” Chief Murphy said. “However, we think this proactive step, along with other wisely implemented approaches and strategies, can significantly reduce the scope of the problem and help make our youth and our community healthier and safer.”
Effective and regular compliance checks help reduce the sale of alcohol to minors, curbs underage drinking and helps reduce traffic crashes, violence and other alcohol-related health issues.
