Rochester Library to Host Fabergé Egg Photo Exhibit
ROCHESTER — Library Director Brian Sylvester is pleased to announce that the Rochester Library will host a special program on Fabergé Imperial Easter Eggs later this month.
WHEN:
Thursday, March 28, at 6:30 p.m.
WHERE:
Rochester Library Community Room
WHAT:
The Friends of the Rochester Library, through a grant from New Hampshire Humanities, will host an illustrated presentation that focuses on the life and work of Russian master jeweler and artist, Peter Carl Fabergé.
The program, hosted by Russian artist, historian and storyteller Marina Forbes, will feature a photo-tour of the Fabergé collections at the Constantine Palace in St. Petersburg, as well as the collections of major museums and private individuals from around the world.
Forbes’ presentation will explore the important role of egg painting in Russian culture, as well as its evolution from a traditional craft to an exquisite fine art under the patronage of the tsars. She will also offer a look at the fascinating history of Fabergé eggs, including their role in the dramatic events that culminated in the end of Romanov rule in Russia, as well as the years following the Bolshevik Revolution.
New Hampshire Humanities, which is making the event possible, nurtures the joy of learning and inspires community engagement by bringing life-enhancing ideas from the humanities to the people of New Hampshire.
“This will be a wonderful opportunity to see and hear about these beautiful and world-renowned works of art,” said Candy Bailey of the Friends of the Rochester Library.
The event is free and open to the public. For more information, call the library at 603-332-1428.
