EASTON — Chief Kevin Partridge reports that the Easton Fire Department extinguished a fire in a bedroom of a home on Turnpike Street.

At approximately 7 p.m., Easton Fire received a 911 call from a driver who had passed by 49 Turnpike St. and saw fire showing from a first floor window.

Easton’s Engine 2 and 4, along with Ladder 1, the West Bridgewater Fire Department and Brewster Ambulance responded to the scene, while the Stoughton Fire Department provided station coverage.

First arriving crews found smoke showing and a working fire in a rear bedroom on the first floor. The mattress and nightstand had caught fire, with flames climbing up the wall to the ceiling.

Firefighters were able to make a quick and aggressive attack, knocking down the fire within 10 minutes and preventing extension into the rest of the home.

“Crews did an excellent job quickly putting out the fire and containing damage to the one bedroom,” Chief Partridge said. “Due to their aggressive attack, there was minimal damage to the majority of the home.”

No one was home at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported.

The bedroom sustained fire and water damage, with the house sustaining moderate smoke damage throughout. The American Red Cross arrived on scene and is working with the homeowners.

Firefighters cleared the scene around 8 p.m.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Easton Fire Department, however a preliminary investigation indicates that a plugged in space heater likely ignited.
