Rockland Town Clerk Receives Certification From Statewide Organization
ROCKLAND — Interim Town Administrator Marcia Birmingham is pleased to announce that Rockland Town Clerk Donna Shortall has been certified by the Massachusetts Town Clerks’ Association (MTCA).
Shortall learned of the prestigious designation of being named a Certified Massachusetts Municipal Clerk this week.
“Donna is one our town’s hardest working employees and it is no surprise that she has been given this designation,” Interim Town Administrator Birmingham said. “Her dedication to her craft is truly an asset to the town of Rockland.”
In order to attain certification, Shortall attended educational courses and had to pass a 250-question aptitude test measuring her knowledge of Massachusetts General Laws in categories such as elections and election procedures, vital records, campaign and political finance, town meetings, ethics and public records.
Shortall has been Rockland’s elected town clerk for four years and served as the Assistant Town Clerk for the three years prior. She also worked in the town Treasurer’s Office for eight years and in the Rockland Public School system for 12 years. She currently serves on the American’s with Disabilities Committee and the Community Emergency Response Team.
In addition to her certification with the MTCA, she has earned the classification of Certified Municipal Clerk from the International Institute of Municipal Clerks and has served of their Education Board.
