Raynham Police Arrest and Charge Man in Armed Home Invasion
RAYNHAM — Chief James Donovan reports that the Raynham Police Department arrested and charged a man with attempting to rob three people during a home invasion Wednesday afternoon.
EDWARD HARTNETT, AGE 18, OF BRIDGEWATER was charged with Home Invasion and three counts of Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon (Knife). HARNETT was expected to be arraigned Thursday in Taunton District Court.
At approximately 1:20 p.m., Raynham Police responded to a home on King Street for a report of man, later identified as HARTNETT, who had attempted to rob three individuals while they were hanging out inside of a shed in the backyard of the home. The victims had wrestled HARTNETT to the ground and were holding him down until officers arrived.
Upon arrival, HARTNETT was detained in the back of a police cruiser and officers spoke with the three victims – two men age 18 and a 17-year-old boy.
The victims stated that they were inside of the shed, which is heated and has electricity and is used as a hangout, when HARTNETT allegedly opened the door with a bandanna covering his face and holding a knife.
HARTNETT allegedly demanded that they hand over their cell phones and any money that they had. One of the victims was able to grab HARTNETT from behind and the three of them wrestled HARTNETT to the ground and disarmed him.
HARTNETT was placed under arrest and taken to the Raynham Police station to be booked. A knife and two bandannas were seized as evidence.
The three victims suffered minor cuts and scrapes during the altercation and paramedics from the Raynham Fire Department also responded to the scene to provide treatment. They all declined to go to the hospital.
These are allegations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty.
