Russell Street School to Host Traditional Student-Staff Basketball Game
LITTLETON — Principal Scott Bazydlo is pleased to announce that Russell Street School will host its traditional student-staff basketball game later this month.
WHEN:
Thursday, Feb. 28 at 6:15 p.m.
WHERE:
Russell Street School Gymnasium
WHAT:
An event that started as a way to kick off a grant program has taken hold as an annual tradition at Russell Street School, with students and staff members playing alongside one another in an evening basketball game.
The first student/staff basketball game was held 17 years ago to mark the start of a bullying prevention grant program. While that grant has long since run its course, the basketball game has remained as a beloved annual event, bringing together the entire Russell Street School community.
“The annual student-staff basketball game is a highlight for our entire school community, and it’s something that everyone looks forward to each year,” Principal Bazydlo said. “It really is a fun, unique and competitive school spirit event.”
Two students from each class will be chosen to join their teachers and other staff members on the court for the game. Each team will consist of student and staff players. The school’s PTA provides uniforms for the players and also helps to make pizza available to those in attendance. Parents of current and former Russell Street students volunteer to serve as officials, while students who aren’t playing have a chance to fill the role of announcers and support their classmates.
The game, which is organized each year by guidance counselor Rachel Leighton, is free to attend and open to the public.
