King Philip Middle School 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament Raises Nearly $1,800 for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital
NORFOLK — Superintendent Paul Zinni and King Philip Regional Middle School Principal Susan Gilson are pleased to announce that a 3-on-3 basketball tournament fundraiser organized by students raised nearly $1,800 for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
On Friday, Feb. 1, the KPMS Student Council hosted a basketball tournament for students in the middle school gymnasium. Twenty nine teams played in the tournament and many more students came to watch the games and cheer on their friends.
The event raised $1,780, which will be donated to the hospital.
“This event was a great way for our students to get together and be active and have fun, all for a great cause,” Principal Gilson said. “I am very proud of the student council for their hard work and I would like to thank student advisors Jenna Brady and Whitney Hartwell, who helped orchestrate this spirited event.”
Generous donations from several local businesses allowed the student council members to operate a concession stand, where the students sold pizza, popcorn, candy, doughnuts and other snacks to those in attendance. The money collect from the concession stand went toward the fundraising effort.
The businesses that donated items include:
- Eagle Brook Saloon
- Papa Gino’s
- Target
- 99 Restaurant
- Shaw’s
- Roche Brothers Supermarkets
- Panera Bread
- Dunkin Donuts
Overall, the tournament was a success and Principal Gilson would like to thank KPMS teachers Emily Leone, Sarah McNulty, Lisa McIntyre, Lynn Bois, Katie Brenneis, and KPMS Librarian Corey Flynn for donating their time during the event.
