Hull High School Holds Veterans Appreciation Ceremony Ahead of Basketball Game
HULL — Hull High School honored veterans in the community by holding an appreciation ceremony last week.
On Jan. 25, before the start of the boys basketball game against Randolph High School, Hull students, faculty and community members gathered to recognize servicemen and women.
The Veterans Service Committee (VSC), a subgroup of the Hull High School National Honor Society, coordinated the event as part of their year-long service project on veterans.
Last week’s ceremony marked the first of several events the VSC plans to hold for the veteran community. Members include seniors Michael DelGuidice, Brian Saniuk, Kyle Cuklanz, Sarah Ashley and Andrew DelGuidce and juniors Samantha Collier, Lauren Anastos, Haven Verarguas and Caitlan Canavan.
“This was a fun kickoff event for VSC students to recognize and honor some of our veterans in the community,” Principal Nicole Nosek said. “Students and veterans had a great time on the court, and this also served as a fantastic way to thank the men and woman who fought for this country for their service.”
To kick off the ceremony, junior Luke Robbs sang the National Anthem before senior Andrew DelGuidice gave a moving speech thanking veterans for their service. He then brought veterans to center court, where they received a round of applause.
Veterans in attendance included Tom Emanuello, Paul Sordillo, Adrian Lindsey, Paul Dunphy and Bill Henderson.
Players, coaches and VSC members then took the opportunity to grab photos with veterans. During the game, VSC members sold raffle tickets, raising $375 for the Hull Veterans Council.
The VSC is overseen by Hull High School English teacher and NHS adviser Kim Wall.
