Medway’s Burke-Memorial Elementary School to Host 2nd Annual Souper Bowl Food Drive

Donations Will Go to Medway Village Church Food Pantry

MEDWAY — Superintendent Armand Pires and Principal Amanda Luizzi are pleased to announce that the Francis J. Burke Memorial Elementary School will be hosting its second annual Souper Bowl food drive this week.

Last year more than 600 pounds of food was donated to the Medway Village Food Pantry. Items collected this year will once again go to the local food pantry.

“We are delighted to help our community by hosting our second annual food drive this year,” Principal Luizzi said. “The idea was developed last year after I heard a food pantry volunteer talk about how food supplies tend to deplete after the winter holidays. We did some investigating and discovered that other communities had fun and success hosting similar food drives. We are excited to see how much we can donate this year.”

Donations will be collected this week, Monday through Friday. The school’s fourth grade advocacy leaders will count the number of items students bring into school and the grade that donates the most will be crowned the 2019 Burke Memorial Souper Bowl Champions!

Parents who wish to contribute to the drive can give students items to bring to school or drop them off at the Burke-Memorial Elementary School, 16 Cassidy Lane.

Items that are being sought for donation include:

  • Soups
  • Canned foods
  • Rice pilaf, rice/pasta sides
  • Boxed pasta
  • Jars of pasta sauce
  • Cereal
  • Oatmeal (boxes of the single-serving instant oatmeal especially)
  • Granola bars, crackers
  • Mayonnaise, salad dressing, condiments
  • Paper towels, tissues, toilet paper
  • Toothbrushes, toothpaste
  • Liquid soap/detergents (hand soap, body wash, dish soap especially)

Please be sure to donate items that are non-perishable and that do not have dented or damaged packaging.
