BURLINGTON — Chief Michael Kent is pleased to announce the appointment of two new members of the Burlington Police Department.

Thomas J. Zarro was appointed Monday as a full-time police officer, and Dodi Feldman joined as a police dispatcher.

Officer Zarro is a 2013 graduate of Billerica High School and graduated in 2017 with a bachelor’s degree in criminology from the University of Southern Maine, where he was a four-year varsity baseball player and dean’s list student from 2015-2017 along with being awarded the William B. Wise Scholar-Athlete Award in 2015, 2016 and 2017. He graduated from the Lowell Police Academy in November 2018

Officer Zarro has previously worked as an intern with the Billerica Police Department and has worked as a program coordinator with the Billerica Recreation Department. His parents are John Zarro of Billerica and Jean-Marie Fraser of Nashua, New Hampshire.

Feldman received bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Criminal Justice from Northeastern University in 2017, May and December respectively. She is also pursuing a second master’s degree, a Master of Arts in Strategic Information Analysis, also at Northeastern. She has been a standout student at Northeastern, maintaining an undergraduate GPA of 3.82 and graduating magna cum laude. As a grad student, her GPA has been a nearly perfect 3.97. Feldman was profiled recently by Northeastern’s College of Social Sciences and Humanities about her interest in criminal justice.

Feldman, a Providence native, has also completed internships with the Drug Enforcement Agency and the FBI. She has previously served as an emergency dispatcher with the Wellesley College and Springfield Police Departments.

“Officer Zarro and Dispatcher Feldman are prime examples of the new generation of police officers and first responders,” Chief Kent said. “As our profession has changed, we are fortunate to have well-educated young people who have already built impressive resumes as soon as they graduate from college. I am very pleased to welcome these two new members of our team, and they have the full support of the men and women of the Burlington Police Department as they begin their journeys.”

Zarro will now enter a 12-week field training officer program before deploying as a patrol officer. Feldman will begin training next week.
