Two Burlington Police Sergeants Complete Supervisor Program at Roger Williams University
BURLINGTON — Chief Michael Kent is pleased to announce that two Burlington Police sergeants recently completed a supervisor’s leadership training program at Roger Williams University in Rhode Island.
Sgt. Peter Abaskharoun completed the program last week and Sgt. Bernie Schipelliti finished the course at the end of September.
The Justice System Training and Research Institute at Roger Williams University, in partnership with the New England Association of Chiefs of Police, hosts the Command Training Series: First Line Supervisor Course. The two-week comprehensive training program is for police supervisory personnel.
Coursework addressed contemporary concepts of management and leadership relevant to the responsibilities of first line supervisors in a modern criminal justice agency.
The program, presented by experienced academics and law enforcement practitioners, discussed topics including operational leadership and management principles, problem-solving, organizational and interpersonal communications, labor relations, disciplinary issues and ethical decision-making.
“I want to commend both Sgt. Abaskharoun and Sgt. Schipelliti for taking steps toward furthering their leadership and supervisory skills,” Chief Kent said. “These two gentlemen are dedicated officers for our department and to see them take the initiative by bettering themselves is a perfect example of their commitment to professionalism and service to our community.”
