Statement of Maynard Police Chief Mark W. Dubois Regarding Suspect Apprehended at Court by ICE Agent
MAYNARD — Chief Mark W. Dubois issues the following statement to the public:
“I have been made aware of the fact that an individual who was arrested by the Maynard Police Department and transported to the Concord Court was then taken into custody by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
“The Maynard Police Department was not involved with this individual’s detainment by ICE and we had no knowledge of ICE’s presence at the court or their intentions. As a municipal police department, we have no regard for a person’s immigration status when rendering services to the community.”
MARLONE CARNIELLI, AGE 24, OF MAYNARD was lawfully arrested by the Maynard Police Department for a third offense of Operating a Motor Vehicle with a Suspended License. He was arrested after a traffic stop by a police officer working a stationary radar post. There was nothing unusual about his arrest or booking at the Maynard Police Department. He was transported to Concord District Court for arraignment, and at that time, the suspect was turned over to court officers, as all criminal defendants are in all cases.
“A person’s immigration status plays absolutely no role in actions of the Maynard Police Department, and officers do not have information about a person’s immigration status when they conduct traffic stops or interact with individuals in the community,” Chief Dubois said.
