Lynnfield Center Water District Releases Warrant for Special District Meeting
LYNNFIELD — Superintendent Kenneth Burnham reports that the Lynnfield Center Water District has published the warrant for the upcoming Special District Meeting.
The meeting, scheduled for Monday, Dec. 10, will address the district’s proposed greensand filter water treatment plant, as well as proposals by ratepayers.
The meeting warrant consists of four substantive articles:
- Article two asks district ratepayers to approve the appropriation of $5.5 million for the construction of the greensand filter water treatment plant at the Glen Drive Pumping Station. The project would serve as the most cost-effective and efficient way to ensure that naturally occurring iron and manganese is filtered from the water supply. By filtering those elements, water would be clearer for ratepayers district wide.
- Articles three and five request no more than $250,000 each to fund feasibility studies for potential connection to supplemental water through Massachusetts Water Resources Authority (article three), or potentially sourcing all of district’s water either through a direct connection to the MWRA or through a connection via the Lynnfield Water District or another surrounding community (article five).
- Article four proposes that the district spend up to $200,000 for a preliminary engineering design for a filtration plant to eliminate iron and manganese from the district’s existing groundwater supply.
Article two is the proposed solution to the discolored water experienced by a portion of ratepayers, and has been put forward by the Board of Water Commissioners. The remaining articles were proposed by ratepayers.
