Easton Police Conduct Alcohol Compliance Checks at Local Businesses
EASTON — Chief Gary Sullivan reports that the Easton Police Department recently completed a series of alcohol compliance checks at local businesses and restaurants and is pleased to announce that no violations were committed.
The Town of Easton has 32 licenses that allow alcoholic beverages to be served and sold by restaurants and businesses.
As part of the department’s periodic compliance checks, an underage operative enters each business and attempts to purchase alcoholic beverages. In the most recent set of checks, the proprietor requested an ID in each instance, and no alcoholic beverages were sold to the underage operative.
The compliance checks were conducted over a two-week period and were completed on Nov. 7.
“I want to commend our business owners and their employees for doing their duty in not selling alcohol to minors,” Chief Sullivan said. “Keeping alcohol out of the hands of underage adults and kids keeps our community safer.”
Easton Wings of Hope Supportive of Compliance Checks
In 2015, when Chief Sullivan was appointed to be the chief of the Easton Police, the department partnered with Easton Wings of Hope. The organization, founded by Kristen Harrison, focuses on youth substance abuse prevention, education and awareness.
Harrison praised the department’s efforts in helping to keep alcohol out of the hands of those who are underage.
“Thank you to the Easton Police Department for having these alcohol compliance checks and kudos the businesses for passing,” Harrison said. “This is a great example of multiple sectors of town – the Board of Health, police, citizens and businesses – all working together to prevent underage drinking. This will help to keep the youth in town safe and ensure healthy futures.”
