WHITMAN — Chief Scott D. Benton reports that the Whitman Police Department arrested a man and a woman Friday night following an alleged drug transaction in a parking lot.
SAMANTHA BOTTERY, AGE 23, OF BROCKTON was arrested and charged with:
- Possession with Intent to Distribute a Class D Drug (Marijuana)
- Distribution of a Class D Drug (Marijuana)
- Carrying a Dangerous Weapon
- Conspiracy to Violate the Drug Law
BOTTERY also had an active warrant for her arrest.
NATHAN YASSEN, AGE 26, OF BROCKTON was arrested and charged with:
- Possession with Intent to Distribute a Class D Drug (Marijuana)
- Distribution of a Class D Drug (Marijuana)
- Conspiracy to Violate the Drug Law
At approximately 9:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 2, Whitman Police detectives were conducting routine surveillance in an unmarked cruiser when they witnessed an alleged drug deal in the parking lot of Burger King, 699 Bedford St.
Two suspects, later identified as BOTTERY and YASSEN, were seen in a vehicle together leaving the scene and were pulled over by officers a short time later.
As a result of the subsequent investigation, police determined that BOTTERY and YASSEN had allegedly sold a large amount of marijuana to another man.
Seized during the investigation was 65 grams of marijuana, a spring-loaded switch blade, a folding pocket knife and $1,823 cash.
BOTTERY and YASSEN were arrested without further incident and both are expected to be arraigned Monday in Brockton District Court.
“This was great work by our detectives in not only being able to recognize an alleged drug deal, but being able to stop the parties involved and conduct a thorough investigation leading to charges against the suspects,” Chief Benton said. “Stopping the sale of illegal narcotics remains a top priority for our department and drug dealing of any kind will not be tolerated in Whitman.”
These are allegations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty.
