Boxborough Police Department Earns Accreditation
BOXBOROUGH – Chief Warren Ryder is extremely pleased to announce that the Boxborough Police Department officially earned accreditation status from the Massachusetts Police Accreditation Commission (MPAC).
The department was recognized for its achievement during an awards ceremony at the Connors Center in Dover on Wednesday, Oct. 24.
Certification is a self-initiated evaluation process by which police departments strive to meet and maintain the highest standards of law enforcement, and is considered the best measure of a police department against the established best practices around the country and region.
Boxborough Police began their pursuit of certification in July 2015, and as a result have completely overhauled their departmental policies, procedures, rules and regulations to be in line with industry standards.
“Accreditation is one of the highest achievements a police department can receive in the state,” Chief Ryder said. “I am extremely proud of everyone who has worked so hard for us to attain this goal.”
The Massachusetts Police Accreditation Program consists of 257 mandatory standards as well as 125 optional standards. In order to achieve accreditation status, the Boxborough Police must have met all applicable mandatory standards as well as 55 percent of the optional standards.
These carefully selected standards include: Jurisdiction and Mutual Aid, Collection and Preservation of Evidence, Communications, Working Conditions, Crime Analysis, Community Involvement, Financial Management, Internal Affairs, Juvenile Operations, Patrol Administration, Public Information, Records, Traffic, Training, Drug Enforcement and Victim/Witness Assistance.
Achieving accreditation is a highly prized recognition of law enforcement professional excellence. Anyone interested in learning more about this program is invited to call Chief Ryder or the department’s Accreditation Manager, Lt. Warren O’Brien.
The Boxborough Police Department achieved State Certification from MPAC on Oct. 12 on its way to full accreditation.
