Dunstable Police Host R.A.D. Instructor Course
DUNSTABLE — Chief James Dow reports that the Dunstable Police Department hosted a training class last week for self defense instructors.
From Oct. 15-17, Dunstable Police hosted a session at Fellowship Hall where 11 officers from as far away as South Carolina came to learn the latest techniques for teaching Rape Aggression Defense (R.A.D.) courses.
The officers who participated in the classes are no certified to teach the basic R.A.D. courses in their own communities.
Officer Charles Chaprales represented the Dunstable Police Department and served as the liaison for the course. Retired Reading Police Detective Pat Iapicca, who has been teaching R.A.D. classes since 1996 and training instructors since 1998, served as the primary instructor trainer for the program last week.
The mission of the R.A.D. Systems is to establish an accessible, constantly
improving and internationally respected alliance of dedicated Instructors. These instructors provide educational opportunities for women in order to help them protect themselves from potential attackers.
“This course provides a valuable resource for individuals of all ages and backgrounds, and we’re glad to be able to host our peers from other agencies and share this critical expertise,” Chief Dow said. “By participating in this program, the officers who joined us will be able to implement these new skills in order to help keep their own communities safe.”
