Winthrop Police Department Selling Pink Shirts to Support Breast Cancer Fight
WINTHROP — Police Chief Terence M. Delehanty is pleased to announce that the Winthrop Police Department will honor all those affected by breast cancer this month.
To recognize both survivors and those who have lose their lives to breast cancer, officers will wear black and pink mourning bands over their badges throughout the month of October.
Winthrop Police Officer Anthony Sorrentino and Sgt. Steve Rogers have also partnered to design a special edition department t-shirt to raise money and awareness for breast cancer research. For Officer Sorrentino, the project serves as a way to honor his mother-in-law, Debbie Gould, who passed away as a result of breast cancer, as well as Sgt. Mary Crisafi, who is a breast cancer survivor.
All proceeds from the sale of the shirts will be donated to Surivors by the Sea and the Marie C. Petrilli Foundation.
“Officer Sorrentino truly went above and beyond to bring this project to life as a way to pay tribute to all of the women and families who have been impacted by breast cancer,” Chief Delehanty said. “Our entire department enthusiastically supports this initiative, which has been a true team effort, and I have no doubt that this will have a positive impact on the fight against breast cancer.”
Officers will be on hand to sell shirts at several upcoming community events:
- Speaker Robert DeLeo’s Women’s Health Forum, Wednesday, Oct. 10, from 6-8 p.m. at Winthrop High School
- Parks and Recreation’s Fall Fair, Saturday, Oct. 13, at Ingleside Park
Shirts are also available for sale at the Meat Market, 224 Winthrop St., or at the police station. For those who choose to go to the police station, shirts will be sold Mondays through Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Fridays from 8 a.m. to noon.
