Andover Resident Injured While Attempting to Cut Down Tree
ANDOVER — Fire Rescue Chief Michael Mansfield reports that Andover Fire Rescue responded Saturday after a resident became pinned under a tree that he was attempting to cut down at his home.
Firefighters responded to a home on Gray Road at 1:20 p.m. for a report of a person trapped under a tree. Upon arrival, rescuers found an 81-year-old man pinned face-down on the ground with his left arm and leg stuck.
The man was conscious and speaking at the time.
Firefighters cut the man free from the tree and a waiting ambulance began to transport him to a rendezvous point for a medical helicopter to transport him to a Boston Hospital. However, the man went into cardiac arrest in the ambulance, and medics diverted to Lawrence General Hospital, where the victim was revived. At this time, officials are working to stabilize the victim enough to airlift him to Boston.
The incident is under investigation.
