Newburyport Police Seek Information Regarding Suspicious Activity
NEWBURYPORT — City Marshal Mark Murray and the Newburyport Police Department are alerting residents to suspicious activity that occurred at a Payson street home over the past two months.
Three times since August, a suspicious masked person has been observed on surveillance cameras attempting to gain entry to the same Payson Street home or garage.
On August 11 and 26 and again on Sept. 9, the footage shows the suspect attempting to gain entry to the home or garage overnight.
In footage provided to Newburyport Police, the suspect is seen wearing gloves, Merrell style outdoor shoes and a “Morphsuit” style full face mask that covers the entire face, including nose, eyes, and mouth. The suspect appears to be between 5’ 2” and 5’ 8.” On one occasion the suspect is seen taking off a pair of glasses and putting them in his pocket.
So far, nothing has been stolen and there have been no encounters between the residents and the suspect.
The photos are being released after consultation with the Payson Street homeowner to alert residents of this activity and seek any information regarding this individual.
If anyone has any information about these attempted break-ins, they are asked to contact Inspector Chris McDonald at 978-462-4411 ext. 1006 or at cmcdonald@newburyportpolice.com.
