Mast Way Elementary Named National Blue Ribbon School
DURHAM — Superintendent James Morse and Principal Carrie Vaich are pleased to announce that Mast Way School’s strong academic performance has earned it national recognition.
Mast Way was named as a National Blue Ribbon School by Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos, making it one of just 349 nationwide to earn the honor this year, and the only school in New Hampshire to receive the distinction in 2018. This recognition is based on the school’s overall academic performance.
The coveted National Blue Ribbon Schools award affirms the hard work of educators, families and communities in creating safe and welcoming schools where students master challenging and engaging content.
“We are extremely excited to earn this incredible recognition,” Principal Vaich said. “It’s a testament to the hard work of our students and staff, and I’m proud of everyone who worked to make this achievement a reality.”
Now in its 36th year, the National Blue Ribbon Schools Program has bestowed recognition on more than 8,800 schools. On Nov. 7-8, U.S. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos and the Department of Education will celebrate with 300 public and 49 private school honorees at an awards ceremony in Washington, D.C.
“I’m pleased to celebrate with you as your school is named a National Blue Ribbon School,” DeVos said in a video message to the honorees. “We recognize and honor your important work in preparing students for successful careers and meaningful lives. Congratulations on your students’ accomplishments and for your extraordinary commitment to meeting their unique needs.”
