Andover Public Safety Officials Provide Update on Gas Emergency

ANDOVER — Town Manager Andrew P. Flanagan, Police Chief Patrick Keefe and Fire Chief Michael B. Mansfield wish to provide an update as the Town of Andover continues its recovery from this weekend’s gas emergency.

Eversource Energy notified town officials overnight that all of the 2,078 gas meters impacted by Thursday’s gas emergency in Andover have now been shut off and cleared, and all residents have been authorized to return to their homes.

National Grid is making steady progress toward fully restoring electricity throughout town, with fewer than 100 customers currently without power in Andover.

Residents who have returned to their homes should NOT attempt to turn their gas back on. For those who are outside of the affected area, only a gas company technician can restore service to homes and businesses.

Those who live outside of the affected area, but whose gas was shut off as a precaution, should call 866-388-3239 to alert utility officials that their service needs to be restored.

Eversource and its utility partners have sole discretion regarding the restoration of gas service for those both inside and outside the affected area, and those entities will provide updates to town officials and residents as that process develops.

Members of the community should consult this fact sheet from Eversource for more information about gas service restoration.

Residents who were displaced or otherwise impacted by this weekend’s incident should make every effort to track the expenses they incurred — including meals, hotel costs, property damage, spoiled food, lost wages and business income — in order to expedite the reimbursement process.

To initiate the claims process through Columbia Gas, please call 1-800-590-5571.

Andover Public Schools will open on a normal schedule and with full bus service on Monday morning. Further announcements regarding town services and recovery efforts will be made later today. The Andover Senior Center will remain open until 6 p.m. Sunday.

Updates will continue to be posted on the town’s official website at www.andoverma.gov and on the town’s Facebook and Twitter feeds.
