East Bridgewater Fire Department Receives $185,000 Grant to Replace Breathing Apparatus Equipment
EAST BRIDGEWATER — Chief Timothy Harhen is pleased to announce that the East Bridgewater Fire Department received a $185,000 grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) today to replace aging equipment for its firefighters.
The department received the 2017 Assistance to Firefighters Grant and was awarded $185,857.
The money will go toward replacing 27 self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) and will cover over 95% of the cost of the new equipment. The department will pay the remaining $9,293 of the replacement cost.
“This was our third time applying for this grant in the last three years to replace these aged pieces of equipment,” Chief Harhen said. “I’m really happy to see that we were awarded the grant and we are thankful to FEMA for their assistance. These breathing apparatus are vital to us when we are responding to a fire or incident with hazardous atmospheric conditions and will allow us to give our firefighters the newest technology available.”
The current SCBA equipment owned by the department is over 14 years old.
