After Road Rage Incident Arlington Police Arrest 3, Seize Money and Drugs
ARLINGTON — Chief Frederick Ryan reports that the Arlington Police Department arrested three men and seized cash and drugs shortly after a road rage incident in the City of Chelsea.
As a result of strong inter-agency communication and the quick work of investigators, JAYLON S. BUTLER, AGE 23, MALACHI BARNETT, AGE 23, and BRANDEN D. TAYLOR, AGE 24, ALL OF EVERETT were arrested and charged with Possession of a Class D Substance (Marijuana) with Intent to Distribute. BUTLER was also charged with Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle.
On Saturday at 10 p.m., the Arlington Police Department was informed by the Chelsea Police Department of a road rage incident in that city in which one party allegedly displayed a firearm. The vehicle involved, a gray 2010 Honda CRV, was registered to an Everett woman who was known to work in Arlington.
A short time later officers located the vehicle driving in Arlington and conducted a traffic stop.
While conducting a lawful search of the vehicle, a red backpack was located. Inside, officers found $25,000 n cash, about 12 oz. of marijuana packed in small plastic baggies, a digital scale, and a 150 count box of resealable plastic bags.
The three men inside the vehicle, identified as BARNETT, TAYLOR and the driver, BUTLER, were taken into custody without incident.
No firearm was found, and the investigation into the road rage incident remains ongoing by Chelsea Police.
Chief Ryan emphasizes the teamwork of police departments in Massachusetts and notes that it remains a crime to possess large quantities or marijuana and to package and sell marijuana on the streets.
The amount of marijuana seized, about 12 oz. is enough to create somewhere between 600-800 marijuana cigarettes.
“This case is an example of many moving parts coming together to affect the proper outcome. All within a span of 25 minutes, two municipal law enforcement agencies, a few miles apart, communicated effectively about a dangerous incident that had just occurred, and officers were able to determine the likely location of the suspects through solid detective work. As a result, three suspects are in custody, drugs have been found, and the profits from alleged drug dealing have been seized,” Chief Ryan said. “The messages are clear: Criminals cannot escape by coming across a municipal border, and while our communities have made great strides toward helping those who use drugs, we continue to aggressively pursue those who sell drugs.”
The suspects were processed at the Arlington Police Department and will be arraigned Tuesday in Cambridge District Court.
These are allegations. All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty.
