AMESBURY — Fire Chief Kenneth E. Berkenbush reports that one firefighter was injured as crews battled a barn fire on Sunday afternoon.
Firefighters responded to 67 Market St. at 6:46 p.m. for a reported fire. Upon arrival, crews were met smoke and fire showing from a 2 1/2 story wood-framed barn.
Crews made an aggressive attack, as multiple buildings were located nearby. A second alarm was ordered.
“Firefighters did an excellent job keeping the fire contained to the original barn building, and I am proud to report that no other buildings sustained damage,” Chief Berkenbush said.
One firefighter sustained an injury while working at the fire scene. He was treated and released at a local hospital. The fire was declared out at 9:30 p.m.
Mutual aid was provided by Salisbury, Newburyport and West Newbury as well as Seabrook, Hampton, East Kingston, Kingston and South Hampton, New Hampshire.
