Newburyport Fire Department Responds to Hazardous Materials Incident
NEWBURYPORT — Chief Christopher LeClaire reports that the Newburyport Fire Department responded to a business following a hazardous materials incident earlier this afternoon.
At approximately 4 p.m., Newburyport firefighters were dispatched to Innocor Foam Technologies, 122 Parker St., for a report of a chemical spill.
Upon arrival, firefighters determined that four employees needed to be decontaminated on scene after coming into contact with toluene when approximately 10-15 gallons of the chemical spilled from a pipe. The four impacted individuals were subsequently transported to an area hospital with injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.
Members of the Newburyport Fire Department and a state hazardous materials emergency response team evaluated the scene and have since turned over control to Innocor officials and Clean Harbors, which will mitigate the spill.
