Georgetown Fire Department Responds to Transfer Station Fire
GEORGETOWN — Chief Fred A. Mitchell Jr. reports that the Georgetown Fire Department extinguished a fire at the transfer station Wednesday night.
At 11:03 p.m., on Wednesday, Aug. 1, firefighters were dispatched to G. Mello Disposal Corporation, 203 East Main St., for a report of a structure fire. Upon arrival, first responders observed that a building on the property was fully engulfed in flames and began an aggressive attack.
Firefighters from Engines 1 and 4, Ladder 1 and Ambulance 11 responded to the scene and worked through the early morning hours to extinguish the fire. They eventually cleared the scene at approximately 3 a.m.
The Topsfield, Boxford and West Newbury Fire Departments provided station coverage during the response.
The cause of the fire is undetermined but is not believed to be suspicious.
