Maynard Police Department Hosts Successful Summer Youth Academy
MAYNARD — Chief Mark W. Dubois is pleased to announce that the Maynard Police Department hosted another successful Youth Police Academy this week.
The third annual summer academy took place from July 16-20 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day. Each of the 18 participants — referred to as cadets — received a uniform which included a hat, shirt and water bottle, as the program included physical training every day.
Throughout the week, cadets learned about various aspects of law enforcement, including firearm safety and defensive tactics, criminal law and procedure, investigations and narcotics, CPR and first aid, as well as 911 dispatch procedures.
Additionally, the NEMLEC SWAT and K-9 units gave demonstrations, Middlesex County District Attorney Marian Ryan spoke with the group, and cadets visited the Massachusetts State Police Mounted Unit facility in Acton.
“Our youth academy has grown over the years and continues to be successful thanks to the hard work of our officers,” Chief Dubois said. “It is so great to see the youth of our community have positive interactions with our department at such a young age and to learn about the ins and outs of police work in a fun way.”
