Registration Closing Soon for Holbrook Junior Police Academy
HOLBROOK — Chief William Smith is reminding the community that registration for the Holbrook Junior Police Academy will be closing at the end of the week, and there are only a few spots left.
The academy is open to students entering sixth and seventh grade, and will be held at the new Holbrook Middle High School campus July 30-Aug. 3 from 8:15 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day.
The program is offered through the department’s Community Outreach Program, which features various events and services throughout the year meant to strengthen ties with Holbrook residents.
During the junior academy, students will attend classroom sessions with lectures, demonstrations by police officers in the areas of law, drug awareness and first responder skills, as well as physical training sessions and field trips.
“There are only a few spots left for our first junior police academy so make sure to get your applications in soon,” said Community Outreach Officer Michael Eshner. “This is a wonderful opportunity for students to learn all about what it means to be a police officer in a fun and hands-on way — we’re hoping to have a great turnout!”
The cost for registration is $50 which covers operating costs and a student uniform that will be issued to each junior officer and is required to be worn each day of the academy.
Registration is open through Friday, July 20 on a first come, first served basis with priority given to Holbrook residents.
Applications are available online by clicking here, or at the front desk at the police station. For more information, click here for a copy of the academy flyer.
