Methuen Police Department Invites Residents to Participate in National Night Out

METHUEN — Mayor James Jajuga and Chief Joseph Solomon would like to invite residents to help the City of Methuen celebrate National Night Out next month by hosting block parties in their neighborhoods.

National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie in an effort to make cities and towns safer, more caring places to live. National Night Out enhances the relationship between neighbors, first responders and city officials while promoting a stronger sense of community.

“National Night Out is a tradition that all of our officers cherish and look forward to each year,” Chief Solomon said. “We have all enjoyed the chances we’ve had to meet members of the community in past years, and I’m looking forward to reconnecting with those residents and meeting new people as well.”

Methuen’s National Night Out will take place from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 7, and those that register their parties will receive a visit from members of the Methuen Police or Fire Departments. Night Out events can range from backyard barbecues to full-blown festivals.

The night provides a unique opportunity for community members and first responders to meet in a fun, friendly environment within their own neighborhoods in order to build lasting relationships with one another.

Residents are encouraged to join Methuen police officers and firefighters in celebrating the event by signing up online to host a block party, as well as by calling Sgt. Joe Rynne at 978-983-8816 to sign up for police, fire and character visits. There is no cost to register.

“A strong relationship between residents and first responders is a critical asset for our community,” Mayor Jajuga said. “This event is an excellent chance to lay the foundation for those relationships, and I hope everyone takes the time to find or host a block party and get involved.”
