ASHLAND — Police Chief Craig Davis and District Attorney Marian Ryan report that Alberto Carmenatty, 29, of Chelsea, was arraigned yesterday after a serious altercation occurred on July 4.

Carmenatty was arraigned in Framingham District Court on July 5 and charged with:

  • Assault and Battery on a Household or Family Member
  • Assault and Battery on a Pregnant Woman
  • Vandalizing Property
  • Disorderly Conduct
  • Resisting Arrest
  • Assault and Battery on a Police Officer (three counts)
  • Assault and Battery (three counts)

On July 4, Ashland Police responded to a report of a fight in progress on Birch Street in Ashland.

Upon arrival, authorities observed that Carmenatty had allegedly physically assaulted a female known to him and was engaged in a verbal altercation with the victim.

Carmenatty allegedly lunged at the victim, at which point Ashland Officers restrained him. He allegedly began to resist arrest and fought with officers on scene, and when transported to an area hospital, Carmenatty allegedly also assaulted officers at the hospital.

Through their investigation, authorities learned that the defendant had also allegedly fought with three victims who are known to him who attempted to stop him from assaulting the female victim prior to the arrival of police.

Authorities later learned that Carmenatty’s dog was believed to be missing. The preliminary investigation suggests that Carmenatty left his dog in his motor vehicle prior to the physical altercation and the dog subsequently died from heat-related injuries after Carmenatty was placed under arrest.

No charges have been filed in connection with this incident and the investigation into the cause of death of the animal is open. Additional charges may be issued.

During arraignment, Judge David Cunis set bail at $500 cash and ordered Carmenatty to not abuse the female victim.

The next scheduled hearing is Aug. 24.

These are allegations. All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty.
