Holbrook Police to Hold Junior Police Academy
HOLBROOK — Chief William Smith is pleased to announce that the Holbrook Police Department will be hosting its first ever Junior Police Academy later this month.
The academy is open to students entering sixth and seventh grade, and will be held at the new Holbrook Middle High School campus July 30-Aug. 3 from 8:15 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day.
The program is offered through the department’s Community Outreach Program, which features various events and services throughout the year meant to strengthen ties with Holbrook residents.
During the junior academy, students will attend classroom sessions with lectures, demonstrations by police officers in the areas of law, drug awareness and first responder skills, as well as physical training sessions and field trips.
“This program is a very exciting chance for students to learn the ins and outs of police work and give them a unique opportunity to have positive experiences with law enforcement early on,” said Community Outreach Officer Michael Eshner. “I encourage families to sign up fast as space will be limited. We hope this is the first of many junior academies!”
The cost for registration is $50 which covers operating costs and a student uniform that will be issued to each junior officer and is required to be worn each day of the academy.
Registration is open through July 20 on a first come, first served basis with priority given to Holbrook residents.
Applications are available online by clicking here, or at the front desk at the police station. For more information, click here for a copy of the academy flyer.
