Chelmsford Police Investigating after Car Crashes into Jewelry Store
CHELMSFORD — Chief James M. Spinney reports that the Chelmsford Police Department is investigating after a driver crashed into a building this afternoon.
Chelmsford Police and Fire responded at 1:30 p.m. to Charles Frederick Jewelers, located at 18 Alpine Lane. Upon arrival, officers found a four-door Toyota Camry sedan halfway into the building. The driver, who was the lone occupant of the vehicle, reported to police that she was pulling into a parking spot and mistook the gas pedal for the break pedal, causing the car to crash.
The jewelry store was open, and patrons were inside at the time. However, no one inside the building was injured.
The driver, a 61-year-old Tyngsborough woman, was treated at the scene but declined further medical attention.
The vehicle was removed from the building and towed away. The store owner will be securing the building, but there did not appear to be significant structural damage.
The incident is under investigation by the Chelmsford Police Department.
