Benjamin Franklin Actor Visits Students at Rockland’s Rogers Middle School
ROCKLAND — Rogers Middle School students got a history lesson from an actor portraying Benjamin Franklin during a presentation held last month.
Fifth graders gathered in the school’s auditorium on Thursday, May 31, to see the actor, who dressed up in traditional periodic costumes and played a young and old Benjamin Franklin.
The presentation included the actor talking about Benjamin Franklin’s love of learning, his early life and his experiments and inventions. Themes of hard work and perseverance were taught to the students.
“After learning about Ben Franklin in their text books, it was awesome to see this great historical figure come to life for the students,” said Fifth Grade Teacher Sue Lonergan. “Students listened as he spoke about life as a young man trying to meet the expectations that his family had decided for him, and his need to choose his own future. I think it really drove the message across to the kids that they should follow their own dreams and goals.”
The presentation was put on by the non-profit group Young Audiences of Massachusetts after a grant donation by the Rockland Education Foundation.
