Ashland Police Remind Residents of Social Host Law

ASHLAND — With Ashland High School’s graduation ceremony on Sunday, Chief Craig Davis would like to remind Ashland residents about the state’s social host law.

Parents and adults can face fines, jail time, or both if they provide alcohol to individuals under the age of 21. Minors can also face punishment for hosting parties at their parent’s homes without their knowledge.

“While we want everyone to have a safe and memorable graduation day, parents and students should know that there are consequences to hosting a party where alcohol is being served to minors,” Chief Davis said.

State law says that anyone who provides alcohol to a person under 21 years old can be fined up to $2,000 and face up to a year in prison.
