Bridgewater Police Seeking Man Who Allegedly Assaulted Officers
BRIDGEWATER — Chief Christopher Delmonte reports that the Bridgewater Police Department is actively searching for a man who allegedly assaulted police officers last week and did not appear for his arraignment in court the following day.
MICHAEL W. LOWDEN, AGE 20, OF BRIDGEWATER is wanted on the following charges:
- Assault & Battery on a Police Officer (Six Counts)
- Assault and Battery While Attempting to Disarm a Police Officer
- Resisting Arrest
- Disorderly Conduct
On Thursday, May 24, at approximately 9 p.m., two Bridgewater Police officers were dispatched to a residence on Pleasant Street for a disturbance call involving a male exhibiting violent behavior.
Upon arrival, the two officers encountered LOWDEN, who was being restrained by another man.
Officers attempted to place LOWDEN under arrest and he resisted and allegedly began striking the officers. At one point during the struggle, LOWDEN attempted to remove the firearm from one of the officers’ holsters, but was unsuccessful.
After subduing and handcuffing the suspect, one of the officers began to lead him down the stairs, while the other officer was behind them. While walking down the stairs, LOWDEN continued to resist and then allegedly said “Let’s go for a ride” and leaned his body weight into the officer in front of him, causing them both to fall down the stairs.
Both LOWDEN and the officer fell down the entire stairway. The officer was transported to Brockton Hospital where he was treated for injuries to his arm and shoulder. LOWDEN refused medical treatment.
LOWDEN was subsequently released from custody after posting the $1,540 bail set by a bail commissioner.
On Friday, May 25, LOWDEN failed to appear for his arraignment at Brockton District Court and a warrant was filed for his arrest. A second warrant was issued for probation violations.
LOWDEN is well-known to police.
If anyone sees LOWDEN or has any information on his whereabouts, Chief Delmonte asks that they call Bridgewater Police at 508-697-6118.
LOWDEN should be considered dangerous, and citizens should not approach him if sighted.
