Newport Police Respond to Head-On Crash
NEWPORT, Vt. — Chief Seth C. DiSanto reports that the Newport Police Department responded to a head-on crash on Highland Avenue yesterday.
On Thursday, April 26, at approximately 12:17 p.m., Newport Police, the Newport Fire Department and Newport Ambulance Services responded to a report of a crash near the intersection of Highland Avenue and Alderbrook Road.
Upon arrival, first responders observed that two vehicles with significant front-end damage had come to rest — one facing west in the eastbound lane of Highland Avenue, the other facing east in the embankment off the road. One of the drivers was treated on scene by paramedics and was subsequently transported to an area hospital with injuries that are not believed to be life threatening.
The second driver was treated on scene for minor injuries.
The cause of the crash remains unknown, but a preliminary investigation indicates that the driver traveling west on Highland Avenue crossed the center line and struck a car driving in the opposite direction.
As a result of the crash, a section of Highland Avenue was closed for approximately 45 minutes.
