Newport Police Seek Persons of Interest in Connection with Incident Involving a Gunshot
NEWPORT, Vt. — Chief Seth C. DiSanto reports that the Newport Police Department is seeking two individuals wanted for questioning in connection with an incident that occurred where a gunshot was fired.
On Friday, April 20 at approximately 10:15 p.m., Newport Police received multiple 911 calls reporting that a fight was taking place, a large crowd was gathering and yelling, and at least one report of a gunshot being fired at the Maplefields, 273 Main Street.
Upon arrival, police learned that the crowd had started to disperse and both subjects that had been reported to be the primary individuals involved in the incident had fled in opposite directions. The suspect who is believed to have fired a gun fled up Third Street toward Prospect Street.
Police began an on-scene investigation and learned from multiple witnesses that at least one gunshot had been fired after an altercation between two men. After an extensive search of the area, police were unable to locate any shell casing or the individual who fired the gun.
Police were able to locate the other male allegedly involved in the altercation, who is believed to have been the person the gun was fired at.
No injuries were reported.
Newport Police are seeking a male and female wanted for questioning in connection with this incident. The male subject is described as being between 5 feet 8 inches and 5 feet 9 inches tall, weighing approximately 130 to 140 pounds with a thin build, dark hair, a dark complexion and wearing a black jacket and blue pants. The female subject described as approximately 5 feet 7 inches tall with a medium to heavy build, light complexion, brown hair, and possibly an eyebrow ring.
