Shrewsbury Firefighters Attend Media Class
SHREWSBURY – Chief James Vuona is pleased to report that three Shrewsbury firefighters attended a “Working with the Media” course this week.
Capt. Seth Colby, Firefighter/Paramedic Adam Towner and Capt. Frank Ludovico attended the two-day training along with the Town of Shrewsbury’s Public Information Officer, Angela Snell, on Tuesday, April 3 and Wednesday, April 4.
The free class was held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day at the Auburn Fire Rescue Training Facility, 5 West St., and is designed to educate and empower public information officers to work with the media and reduce fears associated with speaking to the press.
Auburn Fire Chief Stephen Coleman taught the course along with Karen Hensel, an investigative reporter for NECN and local Boston NBC affiliate WBTS.
“It is so important for members of the department to feel comfortable working with the media, as transparency and strong communication are a vital part of our mission as a fire department,” Chief Vuona said. “I’m pleased we were able to have three members attend this session and I hope we can continue sending firefighters to these types of trainings.”
Attendees learned about how to prepare press releases, and practiced mock on-camera interviews and press conferences.
