Saugus Police Respond to Rollover Crash

SAUGUS — Police Chief Domenic J. DiMella reports that the Saugus Police Department responded to a two-car crash this morning that left a man critically injured.

At approximately 7:08 a.m., Saugus Police received multiple 911 calls for a motor vehicle crash in the area of Walnut Street at Birchwood Avenue.

Upon arrival, police observed a Chevy Silverado pickup truck on its side and a Nissan Altima with significant front end damage, which was upright.

The Saugus Fire Department also responded to the scene and had to extricate the driver of the pickup, using hydraulic rescue tools. He was transported via ambulance to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the Nissan and a passenger declined on-scene medical treatment.

The cause of the accident remains under active investigation by the Saugus Police Department and the Massachusetts State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section.
