Shrewsbury Firefighters Association Invites Public to Attend Price Chopper MDA Fundraiser
SHREWSBURY – The Shrewsbury Firefighters Association is pleased to announce that Shrewsbury Firefighters will be making an appearance at a Muscular Dystrophy Association fundraiser, hosted by Price Chopper, later this month.
WHEN:
Sunday, March 25 from 12-3 p.m.
WHERE:
Price Chopper, 731 Boston Turnpike, Shrewsbury
WHAT:
Later this month, Shrewsbury Firefighters will be bringing fire trucks and equipment to a fundraiser held by Price Chopper, which is raising money for the MDA.
Firefighters will be at the event with the department’s new forestry unit, a fire engine and plenty of fire gear for attendees to explore. Children can take tours of the trucks, try on uniform items like helmets and boots, and talk to the firefighters about fire safety.
“We always embrace the opportunity to help out for a good cause, even if it’s as simple as taking a few trucks down to an event for the day,” said Shrewsbury Firefighter Union President Aaron Roy. “The kids always love to see the fire engines and talk to the firefighters about fire safety and life on the job. I encourage those who are able to stop by, say hello and help raise money and awareness for the MDA.”
According to the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, the most common forms of muscular dystrophy in children are Duchenne and Becker, which affect approximately one in every 5,600 to 7,700 males from ages 5-24. The most common adult form is type 1 myotonic dystrophy, affecting 1 in 8,000 worldwide.
The MDA aims to save and improve the lives of children and adults with muscular dystrophy and related life-threatening diseases by raising awareness and funding for research.
The Shrewsbury Firefighters Association also holds their own Fill the Boot fundraiser every October to support MDA. Last year, they raised $10,000 for the cause.
