Winthrop Police Searching for Armed Robbery Suspects
WINTHROP — Chief Terence M. Delehanty reports that the Winthrop Police Department is actively searching for two armed robbery suspects and is looking for the public’s help identifying the men.
On Wednesday, Jan. 31, at approximately 8:10 p.m., Winthrop Police responded to the D&T Market, 291 Shirley St., on a report of an armed robbery.
Upon arrival, officers learned that two men entered the store and made their way to the counter. A man dressed in dark clothing and gray colored cloth gloves pulled out a gun and pointed it at the clerk, telling him to “back up.” The second man, dressed in a red hooded sweatshirt, purple latex gloves and dark pants then went behind the counter and removed cash from the cash register and lottery machine. Both suspects wore half face masks with a skeletal design.
The suspects then fled from the Shirley Street side of the building with an undetermined amount of cash heading toward Seafoam Avenue.
Massachusetts State Police and their K-9 unit responded, along with Revere Police and Boston Police to assist Winthrop Police with searching the area. Police were unable to locate the suspects.
“We’re asking for the public’s help identifying these two men,” Chief Delehanty said. “If you recognize them, or were in the area at the time of the robbery, please give us a call.”
This remains an open and active investigation. Winthrop Police are working with the Lynn and Boston Police Departments to determine if similar robberies in those communities are connected.
