Andover High School Boys Hockey Coaches Placed on Leave after Schools Receive Information
ANDOVER — Andover High School Principal Philip Conrad reports that three Andover High School boys’ hockey coaches, including the varsity Head Coach, have been placed on administrative leave.
Principal Conrad, who with Athletic Director William Martin determines whether the high school’s athletic programs operate consistent with district and MIAA policies, has informed Superintendent Sheldon Berman of his decision and the investigation. Principal Conrad took this action after receiving information that certain coaching methodologies may have been used for the hockey program which, if true, are not in the best interests of our student athletes. None of the coaches are school district staff members.
The coaches were immediately put on leave pending the outcome of the investigation. Junior Varsity hockey coach Peter Loring has been named interim varsity head coach.
Members of the varsity hockey team were notified of the situation this morning, and the school district also sent a message home to parents of the student athletes.
Andover High School has designated certain employees of the high school — the principal, assistant principal, school social worker, and school psychologist — as points of contact for any student with questions or concerns.
“The safety and well-being of our students is our most important priority, and I am disheartened to hear of the allegations against members of our coaching staff,” Principal Conrad said.
