Stoneham Police Investigating after Three Are Stabbed During Altercation
Police Do Not Believe there is Any Danger to Community
STONEHAM — Chief James McIntyre reports that the Stoneham Police Department is investigating after three people were injured during an altercation Wednesday evening.
Police and fire responded to the vicinity of 498 Main St. at 8:42 p.m. for a report of a fight.
Upon arrival, officers spoke with a 47-year-old male who stated that he had been stabbed by a juvenile male who was still on scene. The adult male was able to locate the knife for officers. A preliminary investigation indicates that two groups of juveniles arranged to meet at the pizza shop when a fight broke out. The juvenile armed with the knife stabbed two juveniles from the other group.
One of the victims was stabbed in the torso and taken to a Boston hospital with serious injuries. The other victim was stabbed in the leg and sustained injuries that are not considered life-threatening.
The 47–year-old male, who was a bystander and had come out of the restaurant, attempted to intervene and was also stabbed in the leg by the juvenile armed with the knife. The bystander was treated for injuries that are likewise not believed to be life-threatening.
The group of juveniles scattered during the melee but were located by Stoneham Police officers a short time later. They were detained for questioning.
The incident is under investigation by Stoneham Police Detectives. As the investigation is just beginning, no charges have been filed at this time, and none of the names of those involved may be released at this time.
The Stoneham Police Department believes that the juveniles were known to each other and that this incident was not a random act of violence. Chief McIntyre stresses that there is no immediate threat to the community.
