Bridgewater Police Respond to Car Struck by Commuter Rail Train
BRIDGEWATER – Chief Christopher Delmonte reports that a vehicle was damaged when it was struck by a MBTA Commuter Rail train on Broad Street Thursday afternoon.
No injuries were reported and the incident is being investigated by the MBTA Transit Police.
At approximately 12:50 p.m., Bridgewater Police and Fire responded to the area of Broad Street, near Spring Street, for a report of a vehicle that had been struck by a MBTA Commuter Rail train.
The vehicle had become stuck on the tracks in the snow at the rail crossing. The driver and a passenger were assisted by two bystanders who helped them get out of the car safely before the crash. The vehicle was thrown into nearby gates and a control shed exposing live wires.
Broad Street will be closed while the incident is being investigated and while equipment repairs are made.
“We are asking all residents to stay off the roads during the blizzard unless absolutely necessary,” Chief Delmonte said.
Members of the media seeking more information about the incident should contact the MBTA Transit Police.
