Bedford Police Department Promotes New Traffic Officer
BEDFORD — Chief Robert Bongiorno is pleased to announce that the Bedford Police Department has promoted a new traffic enforcement officer.
Bedford Police Officer Thomas Devine, who has more than 30 years of law enforcement experience and has served on the Bedford Police Department for 19 years, has been appointed as the department’s new traffic enforcement officer.
A life-long Bedford resident, Officer Devine began his new position on Monday, Jan. 1 and will be dedicated to traffic related issues and concerns of the town. He is a nationally certified Child Safety Seat Technician and is trained in occupant protection, crash reconstruction and mapping, as well as various other enforcement areas.
Prior to his appointment to the Bedford Police Department, Officer Devine worked for the U.S. Marshals Service and served in the United States Air Force for 13 years. While serving in the USAF, Officer Devine was assigned to Security Forces and deployed to two combat zones. His biggest military accomplishment was flying with the Presidential Unit from 1993-1998 at Andrews Air Force Base under President Bill Clinton.
Officer Devine graduated from the Norwood Police Academy and is a founding member of both the Bedford Police Department Honor Guard and the NEMLEC Motor Unit.
“Traffic and pedestrian safety are important concerns of Bedford residents and we continue to see the need for our department to focus on these issues,” Chief Bongiorno said. “Officer Devine has been a valuable member of the Bedford Police Department for many years, and I am confident that he will be successful in his new role as traffic enforcement officer.”
Bedford’s former traffic enforcement officer, Officer Marc Saucier, has been promoted to detective and is assigned as the department’s court prosecutor.
“I would like to thank Officer Saucier for his years of dedicated service as the traffic officer and know he will excel in this new position,” Chief Bongiorno said.
